If you do anything besides just gaming on your PC, AMD’s Ryzen 3000 series of desktop processors are for you. In this lineup, the Ryzen 9 3900X is a beast of a CPU for gamers and content creators alike. Granted, the Ryzen 9 3950X with four more cores and eight more threads is a more powerful ‘consumer-grade’ part. But at the price the 3950X comes in, most people can’t afford that.
However, getting the CPU means you have to pair it up with a good motherboard. Any AM4 X570 chipset motherboard would work out of the box. But many boards exist which have major issues. Continue reading this article to know which is the Best Motherboard for Ryzen 9 3900x for your needs.
The Ryzen 9 3900x sits at a middle ground between the Ryzen 7 3700X and the Ryzen 9 3950X. However, surprisingly, the 3900X surpasses the 3950X both in terms of total power draw (3900X consumes a few watts more) and idle & load temperatures, even though their TDP is the same of 105w. That was achieved by AMD’s very careful and precise power management for the 3950X. This means the 3900X sets the benchmark for VRM and power phases capabilities on X570 motherboards, not the 3950X.
With that out of the way, let’s look at 5 of the Top Motherboards for the Ryzen 9 3900X!
Best Motherboards for Ryzen 9 3900x Reviewed!
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Elite Review (Author’s Choice)
Okay, so let’s start with the cheapest option. We don’t recommend spending much less than $200 for an X570 motherboard. Typically the entry-level X570 boards aren’t much better than a B450 board. And that’s generally due to their poor VRM performance (e.g., MSI X570-A PRO, Gigabyte X570 Gaming Edge, and X570 Gaming X). And you only pay the price premium over a B450 board for PCI-E 4.0 support.
The only entry-level X570 motherboard we recommend is the Gigabyte X570 AORUS Elite. It’s feature-rich and comes with a good 12+2 phase VRM. Though it’s an entry-level motherboard, it packs many features. The board comes with plenty of USB 3.0 ports on the rear I/O. And, as a bonus, the I/O shield comes pre-installed, which is very convenient. Other than that, the motherboard comes with six SATA III 6Gbps for all your storage needs. This motherboard is the best gaming motherboard for Ryzen 9 3900x!
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme Review
Halo products do exist, and those of you with deep pockets, the Gigabyte X570 Aorus Xtreme is for you.
This motherboard has an even more insane 16 phase VRM. It’s the only X570 motherboard on the market that doesn’t have a fan to cool the chipset. It is entirely passively cooled. It’s the best motherboard for overclocking a Ryzen 9 3900X due to its beefy VRM.
The motherboard features 10 Gigabit LAN, WiFi 6, triple m.2 slots, Q-Flash, and many more. It’s a crazy overkill motherboard and should only be bought by people with more money than sense. But it still is the Best Ryzen 9 3900x Motherboard for Gaming money can buy. Some alternatives at the same price point include the Asus Formula, MSI Godlike, and the Asrock Aqua X570.
Asrock X570 Taichi Review
The Asrock X570 Taichi packs the new WiFi 6 standard. It has three m.2 slots and has a full coverage heatsink. The heatsink does an excellent job of cooling the VRM. It has two USB 3.2 gen 1 front panel connectors and six on the back as well, which is plenty. The motherboard also features a debug LED.
The motherboard supports BIOS flashback as well, where you can update or reflash the BIOS of the motherboard with just a power supply connected to it (without a CPU and RAM). Apart from that, the board also has a matte black PCB and pretty nice RGB lighting effects and aesthetics if you are into that sort of thing. However, in case you don’t care about PCI-E 4.0, then you might want to look at Asrock X470 Taichi. It’s an excellent valued board.
Gigabyte X570 Aorus Master Review (Best Budget Motherboard for Ryzen 9 3900x)
This motherboard has an insane 14 phase VRM, so it comfortably beats out its competitors. It has real finned heatsinks on top of the VRM as well, which results in better cooling. Gigabyte has been on top of their BIOS game ever since the 3rd gen Ryzen processors arrived. So it’s very intuitive and user friendly here as well. The motherboard features dual BIOS and a physical switch for switching to the second BIOS.
Asrock X570M Pro4 Review (Best MicroATX)
If you are looking for an mATX motherboard, your options are extremely limited. Only the Biostar Racing X570 GT and the Asrock X570M Pro4 exist in this segment. The Asrock X570M Pro4 isn’t exactly amazing. However, the Biostar motherboard features a pretty horrible BIOS, which makes the X570M Pro4 the winner by default. The availability of the Biostar board isn’t exactly great either. The Asrock board features a massive VRM heatsink and is pretty much your only option in this form factor.
Conclusion – Which is the Best Motherboard for Ryzen 9 3900x?
All of the motherboards mentioned above are more than capable enough to handle the 3900X. And if AMD’s platform support is anything to go by, you can even upgrade to the upcoming Ryzen 4000 series of desktop processors without needing to change these AM4 motherboards. According to us, the Gigabyte Aorus Elite is the Best Mobo for Ryzen 9 3900x in case you have an unlimited budget.
But out of these motherboards, the Gigabyte Aorus Master provides the best value for money. So, if you are limited on budget, your best bet would be the Aorus Master to get the best experience without compromising with proper processor utilization!
